((In Bloom))

2010 has felt like a whole bunch of homework to me. Today I was working on my final pass/fail paper, when something caught my eye. It was a slant of light that seemed to slice through my computer screen, demanding my attention. A beautiful single orange ray of light found its way into my dark house. Photographers notice the light more than anything else on this planet. It is our most powerful weapon. I left my paper behind, grabbed my camera, and this is what I found:

I have this whole other life waiting for me outside of Oklahoma. Kaleb is on the other side of the border. It's a life that is beautiful and ready to embrace my potential that has been capped here. It is telling me to take a chance and leap and not give a damn to what the critics say. If these plants can make it through all the storms, I'll be damned if I won't bloom too.

and so I will leave you with this:

You can lose the essence of a flower
in a very large bouquet,

or lose beauty in the moment
with the hours of the day.

You can overlook the wonderful
and swell on all the gloom,

missing completely life's precious
Single Bloom
